All because of this newly released Copilot feature.
Copilot Vision (Windows only) is the first real product lets you share your screen while working on tasks and lets an AI suggest how to do things. I imagine in some future version comes just doing the task for you.
Google AI Studio has had this feature for a while as well as ChatGPT and Gemini on your phones. If Microsoft is doing it today, I expect that OpenAI will do it soon, but much bigger fanfare and marketing.
When that happens, you might see people no longer go to videos learn how to do things. This will probably affect things like YouTube and other sites, this could have a dramatic impact in how your learn or even do things in the future.
I think that it also makes UX less important. Do we need a thirty level deep settings panel, when all you need to do is to tell an AI to change your screen resolution?
I don’t know…what do you think? It might be that it won’t work well or that people won’t even know that it’s there, but how do you think this will impact things like Excel, UX design or even programming?
What I think is that trusted Authority becomes the most important currency. People don’t know what they don’t know, and AI generates more noise than humans can handle. So, instead of UX driven learning, you’ll need goal driven learning.
What do I need to do to achieve an outcome instead of which buttons do you hit to get a result. Like I say all the time, I didn’t get into programming because I loved typing, I did it because I love solving problems.
If you don’t believe me, Satya Nadella says: “Why do I need Excel”. And his job used to be do to Excel Demos
